Why "Merit"

Earned,
not given.

Nobody hands you sobriety, and self-respect isn't free. You rebuild your life one choice, one day and one hard-earned win at a time. That's what the name means, and it's how the house runs.

Merit (noun)

1. Excellence or worth: high quality, value, or virtue.

2. Earned advantage: something deserved through action, effort, or character, not luck, privilege, or circumstance.

In recovery, it means dignity you earned yourself.

The Merit Code

Five rules we live by.

01

Earn it every day

Sobriety isn't handed to you. Put in the work, own your recovery, and take pride in what you build.

02

Own your stuff

No excuses, no shifting blame. Accountability isn't a punishment here. It's the tool that keeps you moving.

03

Do the work

Show up, hold down a job, clean up your own mess, and do the right thing when nobody is looking.

04

I am my brother's keeper

Nobody does this alone. Speak the truth straight, pull each other up, and leave drama at the door.

05

Rebuild the trust

Words don't mean much until your actions back them up. Prove every day that you're a man of your word.

EARNED RANK

Our mark

Rank you earn.
Nobody hands it to you.

Stripes are the plainest sign of something earned over time. Nobody gets them for showing up once. That's why the Merit mark is three chevrons, stacked like rank.

The brackets: the house

Structure, rules and the brothers around you. They hold everything in place while you build.

Three chevrons: three phases

Foundation, Build and Lead. Each one is earned by what you do, not by time served.

The rust chevron: today

The one in front of you. Earn it, and there's a new one to work for. That's how rank gets built: every day.

How accountability works here

Structure you can count on.

Merit isn't treatment. It's a peer-support home with real rules. We connect you to IOP, counseling and meetings, and the house keeps you honest while you do the work.

Work or IOP in 30 days

A job, school, volunteer work or an intensive outpatient program within your first 30 days.

Random testing

Drug and alcohol tests at least twice a month, plus tests for cause. The house stays substance-free.

Curfew and meetings

An 11 pm curfew on weeknights and midnight on weekends. At least 3 recovery meetings a week and a sponsor or recovery coach.

The house comes first

A weekly house meeting, a chore rotation, and no overnight guests. Everyone pulls their weight.

Three phases, earned, not timed

PHASE 1

Foundation

Earlier curfew, weekly check-ins with the house manager, and a job or IOP lined up. Move up when you've shown you can keep the basics.

PHASE 2

Build

Steady work, rent paid on time, and a clean record in the house. You get the standard curfew and more freedom.

PHASE 3

Lead

Mentor new brothers, help run house meetings, and plan your next move to independent living.

All questions

Is Merit a treatment center?

No. Merit is a peer-support recovery home. We don't provide detox or clinical care. We connect you with IOP, counseling and medication providers, and the house gives you structure while you do the work.

Do I need to finish detox first?

Yes. You need to have finished detox before you move in. Many residents come straight from residential treatment or while starting IOP.

How much does it cost?

$850 a month per bed. That covers a furnished bed, all utilities, Wi-Fi, linens, laundry and a house manager. Residents buy their own food. You can pay weekly or monthly.

Does insurance pay for this?

Insurance, Medicare and Medicaid don't pay rent at sober living homes. They may cover your IOP, counseling and medication. Most residents pay from wages, SSDI or SSI, VA benefits, or help from family.

Do you accept residents on MAT, like methadone or Suboxone?

No. Merit is an abstinence-based home, so residents can't be on medication-assisted treatment such as methadone or buprenorphine (Suboxone). Other prescribed medications are fine. They're kept in a lockbox and logged.

I'm on probation or parole. Can I live here?

Often, yes. We work with officers and courts, and we review every application individually. Tell us your conditions when you apply.
