For families

You can open the door.
He has to walk through it.

If someone you love is finishing treatment, you want to know where he'll land. Here's what Merit is, what we expect from him, and how you can help.

  • Is there a house manager, and how often are they there?
  • How often do you drug test, and what happens after a positive test?
  • What does rent include, and are there extra fees?
  • What is your policy on medications, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?
  • What's expected each week: work, meetings, chores, curfew?
  • Can I see the house and meet the manager before move-in?

How accountability works here

Structure you can count on.

Merit isn't treatment. It's a peer-support home with real rules. We connect you to IOP, counseling and meetings, and the house keeps you honest while you do the work.

Work or IOP in 30 days

A job, school, volunteer work or an intensive outpatient program within your first 30 days.

Random testing

Drug and alcohol tests at least twice a month, plus tests for cause. The house stays substance-free.

Curfew and meetings

An 11 pm curfew on weeknights and midnight on weekends. At least 3 recovery meetings a week and a sponsor or recovery coach.

The house comes first

A weekly house meeting, a chore rotation, and no overnight guests. Everyone pulls their weight.

Three phases, earned, not timed

PHASE 1

Foundation

Earlier curfew, weekly check-ins with the house manager, and a job or IOP lined up. Move up when you've shown you can keep the basics.

PHASE 2

Build

Steady work, rent paid on time, and a clean record in the house. You get the standard curfew and more freedom.

PHASE 3

Lead

Mentor new brothers, help run house meetings, and plan your next move to independent living.

Family questions

Straight answers.

Can I apply for my son, husband or brother?

Yes. Fill out the application with your name and phone, and tell us about him in the notes. We'll still need to talk with him before he moves in, because the choice to do the work has to be his.

Will you tell me how he's doing?

Only with his written permission. With a signed release, we can confirm he's living here and following the house rules.

Can family visit?

Yes, in the common areas during set visiting hours. There are no overnight guests.

What if he uses?

Safety comes first. Using in the house means leaving the house. We'll help him get to detox or treatment and talk about a path back.
